I realized yesterday when setting up my DVR to record Pixie Hollow Games, that it is only 1/2 hour long! All this time I was under the impression it was a film, but it is just a TV special. I am so disappointed.

We were going to have it be our Thanksgiving feature, well that plan is shot.

I really wish I would stop believing Wikipedia, which still calls it a film and movie… maybe I can edit it.

Last week my daughter was at an event in the Disney Store (she was dressed like Wedding Cinderella… so adorable!) and she got a Trading Card with Tinker Bell on it. I haven’t gotten any other info yet but today found one of Fern, a new fairy in the upcoming movie, on the site of her voice actress, Zendaya.

Tinker Bell’s facebook page linked to a new video (below). At the end it mentions a new Tinker Bell film called Secret of the Wings. I was very excited for about 11 seconds until I remembered how jerked around I have been by Disney’s haphazard press releases, so I searched around and sure enough it is simply the new name of the movie formerly known as Tinker Bell and the Mysterious Winter Woods.

This is the first film to not have Tinker Bell’s name in the title. Theoretically it is the final film in the series? I hope not, but I won’t let myself hope.

Proof that it is just renamed can be found in on the disc for Bambi II which has just been issued to Blu-ray. In the previews, the same trailer previously shown for Winter Woods was accompanied by the new “Secret of the Wings” title treatment is tagged with a “coming soon” release date. Still Fall 2012 as far as we know.

In Fall 2010, I was very excited for the new Tinker Bell movie to come out, after waiting all year.  When it did, I noted that the insert for Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue,  said that Tinker Bell and the Mysterious Winter Woods was coming out in Fall 2012.  That was 2 years away!

I searched online, and could find nothing… except Wikipedia which said that it was coming out in February 2011!  That was very exciting… but I didn’t believe it.  I hoped… but I didn’t believe it.

As the time drew near, I was sure that it was bogus… and so it was.  And nothing was forthcoming, there was just no info on the web about what was next!

Finally, Wikipedia said that the next film was actually Tinker Bell and the Pixie Hollow Games, originally slated to be the final film, but pushed forward.  That explains the Fall 2012 for Winter Woods.

So when would Pixie Hollow Games come out?  Official Disney websites still said nothing… Wikipedia doesn’t really list proper sources either… finally in Summer merchandise starts slowly appearing… and TV commercials… with no release date.

Wikipedia said it would air on TV instead of being released on DVD… and gave an air date of October 4th.  That came and went.  I e-mailed the Never Council at pixiehollow.com and they could not confirm any date… finally a week later Wikipedia says November 19.  But THIS time other news sources say the same thing, though none look official… it isn’t helpful if they are just copying Wikipedia which we know is unreliable…

Whoa, it turns out Tinker Bell has a facebook page!  Who knew?  Probably everyone except me.  I can’t say I am too happy with the way people assume everyone uses facebook… I prefer an “old fashioned” web page myself…

But finally I know when the new film is coming.  My family has opted to record it and watch it after our Thanksgiving meal. We historically have watched the latest Pixar film, but this year it was Cars 2, the first disappointment from Pixar ever, and so instead we will save the Tinker Bell film for that holiday.  I can’t wait!

So I discovered that Tinker Bell has a Facebook page… it confirms the air date of November 19 for Tinker Bell and the Pixie Hollow Games.

I tried e-mailing the press release e-mail address for Disney but had never gotten a response… the folks at pixiehollow.com are great at responding though, but they manage the website and aren’t in “the know” with everything… they indicated it WILL be released on DVD though and the TV airing is to reach a wider viewership first.  So that is good news.

Tinker Bell and the Pixie Hollow Games is coming in Fall 2011, but good luck getting any more detailed info.  Disney has not announced an air date.  Wikipedia says it was to be released on October 4th, that didn’t happen.  Keep your eyes peeled and your Tivo at the ready!

I wish it would just be released on DVD, but my guess is that Great Fairy Rescue didn’t do as well as the studio hoped, and they are gauging interest before authorizing a DVD release?  Or perhaps they are definitely going to release it on DVD, and airing it first will actually boost the sales?  I will buy it either way, so I prefer a DVD release first…
